Winter weather does a number on outdoor displays, and signs are no exception! When snow melts or ice freezes on your signs, the once vibrant colors can wash our or your sign can actually become damaged. It’s possible that lower hanging signs can get covered in melting salt residue that’s kicked up from the road. Make a point to look at your signs from time to time to see if they need a quick touch up!
Check Your Information
If it’s been a while since you got your sign, give the information a look over. Is your phone number the same? Have you changed your other advertisements and marketing? Do you display your hours, and have they been adjusted? Even if all of the info is the same, think about getting a fresh look by arranging the information differently to catch your customers’ eyes!
Check Your Sign Fasteners
Over the year, the nuts and bolts that attach your sign to your establishment can get loose and face some serious wear and tear. Before it becomes a major safety issue, take the time to check on the condition of the fasteners that your sign hangs by and tighten or replace as necessary.
Replace Lights
Whether your signage is back-lit or front-lit,you want to make sure its stays lit! Make a point to check on your bulbs and keep your whole sign illuminated through the darker winter. As the days are shorter, you’ll be relying on them more. Also make sure all of your lights are working. Nothing looks worse than a sight that’s only partially lit!
Check Your Electronics
For signs that use lighting or have LED displays, take a close look at your wiring. Over the year, protective coatings can wear down and expose sensitive connections, and corrosion can build up on other electrical equipment. If you’re not an expert on these kinds of signs or electrical connections, be sure to call a licensed expert who can safely inspect your signage. This is important at all times of the year, but the constant freezing and melting is especially taxing on these kinds of signs.
